Sam Weideman to play for Melbourne
Former VJFC player Sam Weideman will make his debut for the Melbourne football club against Hawthorn today at the MCG. Sam was selected at Pick No. 9 in the AFL National Draft in November and had showed strong form for Casey Scorpians in the VFL, kicking 3 goals last week to bring his tally for the season to 20.
Sam played all his junior football with Vermont starting in the Under 9’s, playing over 150 games for the club. He won the VJFC and EFL Under 15 Best & Fairest award and was also Premiership Captain in the same season. He won another VJFC Best & Fairest as well as runner-up B&F awards throughout his junior career with the club. His grandfather Murray Weideman is a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame, having played in two premierships and won three best and fairests in his 180-game career with Collingwood. Sam's father Mark also played 28 games for Collingwood between 1981-1984. We are very proud of Sam and wish him all the very best.
